The Eastern Indiana Economic Growth Region 6 (EIEGR) serves Blackford, Delaware, Fayette, Henry, Jay, Randolph, Rush, Union, and Wayne counties in Eastern Indiana.
EIEGR is currently involved in the Strategic Skills Initiative (SSI), which is a statewide effort to increase competitiveness within the workplace. The SSI aims to achieve two primary goals:
- Identify and alleviate present and future shortages of critical occupations and specific cross-cutting skill sets within the industries that drive Indiana's economy.
- Instill a lasting, demand-driven approach to workforce development at the regional level.
Indiana's future economic development will critically depend on having a workforce that is adequate to power the growth of key industries.
Because there are currently shortages in critical occupations and essential skill sets that impede the growth of those key industries, EIEGR will aim to support economic development by identifying and attacking the "bottlenecks" posed by existing and future shortages of critical occupations and skill sets.
